Developing Tourism on Our Coast

The ”Developing and Managing Tourism in Coastal North Carrick Report” is now available to view, and local residents and businesses are invited to read more about the plans and intentions for managing and developing coastal tourism in our area. The report – supported by the NatureScot ‘Better Places Green Recovery Fund’- outlines previous work which was undertaken by NCCBC and our coastal communities to create Development Programmes (https://nccbc.org.uk/development-programmes/).

The report focuses on tourism and changing consumer behaviours as a result of Covid-19. It gives data on current and potential future visitor numbers and discusses the strengths of our area, including our stunning natural environment, popular visitor attractions and proactive community groups and organisations, as well as discussing the opportunities for investment, development and growth in the coming months and years.

A steering group of people from Dunure, Kirkoswald, Maidens and Turnberry, worked with consultants to produce the report and they are continuing the work to implement its findings. A key feature of this may be to create a Tourism Forum that can link into the work of the Ayrshire and Arran Destination Alliance and the Ayrshire Growth Deal. The local Tourism Forum – involving private, public and community sectors – will develop the tourism product in this area and will enhance the “Shire Route” – one of 5 routes being promoted via “The Coig”, https://thecoig.com/about-us/.
